Help us Get the Word Out in Your Local Area
Though we have a robust online presence, there are many people who share our humanitarian values, who simply don’t participate in social media. To reach those folks, we’ve had the most success by placing our postcards on community bulletin boards—and that’s where we need your help …
Find a Bulletin Board
There are several places in our towns and cities that allow members of the community to post announcements on a shared bulletin board. Here are just a few examples of the places we have found them:
- Groceries
- Libraries
- Movie Theatres
- Places of Worship
- Recreation Centers
- Coffee Shops
- Universities
- Primary Schools
- Thift Stores/Charity Shops
- Apartment Complexes
- Small Businesses
- Hiking Trail Entrances
- Music Venues
- Office Break Rooms
- Laundromats
Send Us Your Address
Email [email protected] with your best mailing address and we’ll send you a starter pack of 1 dozen branded, recycled postcards. They contain a QR code for folks to donate in just one click, and our website if they’d like to allocate their donation to a specific campaign.
Make a List
Once you get your cards, make a list of the top 12 places in your area where community bulletin boards are present and seek permission to post.
Be sure to follow the rules of each location (some have specific requirements that must be adhered to) and never post without permission. In this capacity, you are acting as an official TWFF ambassador, so it’s very important to respect their process.
How to Seek Permission
Here’s a sample script of what to say when you call to ask if you can post on a specific location’s community bulletin board:
“Hello, my name is _____. I’m a volunteer for The White Feather Foundation, a charity that supports humanitarian and environmental projects worldwide. I have a postcard about the charity with an invitation to donate that I’d like to post on your community bulletin board. Would that be okay?”
If they respond “Yes”:
“Wonderful! Let me know if there is anything further to the process. Otherwise, I’ll be in soon to post.
If they respond “No”:
I completely understand and thank you for your time.
Day of Posting
Most places have thumbtacks or push-pins available on the actual bulletin boards, but in case they don’t, it may be smart to take a handful with you.
Once you’ve posted all of your cards, send us another email and let us know where you put them. We will build a database of these locations and publicize accordingly as the program grows so there is no duplication of efforts.
