“In the process of working with my friend, Simply Arlie who is a photographer and filmmaker, to create the cover art for my album “Parade Rain,” we discussed the track, Let Yourself Be Beautiful. The song inspired her with a video storyline and she cast a model, Leslie Flores, and her daughter, Tiana Coreano to bring attention to Ewing’s Sarcoma. Tiana has battled Ewing’s Sarcoma since the age of 21.
At the time, I was unfamiliar with this particular cancer, but witnessed through friends and family the horrors of cancers time and again. After learning more about Ewing’s Sarcoma and the need for funding and increased awareness, I was only too happy to use my music in support of this cause.
After listening to “Let Yourself Be Beautiful,” Leslie and Tiana fell in love with the song saying the lyrics resonated. I was really pleased as I wrote the song to have a very positive lyric from a personal perspective. From this point, Simply Arlie wrote, directed, produced and lensed the video over a few days in Baltimore, Maryland and York, Pennsylvania in the United States.
I’m really happy with how it turned out, but even happier that Tiana, being diagnosed at the later end of the spectrum, managed to fight and survive against the odds. It is my hope that this video will raise awareness and funds to continue the fight against Ewing’s Sarcoma as we celebrate her survival and hope for the survival of others.”
