Because the main roads that lead to area hospitals were often impassable, and not everyone had access to a vehicle, many serious medical situations resulted such as road-side baby deliveries and complications from accidents.

- [Mothers of Africa Phase 2](https://whitefeatherfoundation.com/projects/mothers-africa-phase-2/): The children of the Shiyala Community were walking for approximately two hours to their nearest school prior to Phase I build of Shiyala Community Primary School. They solved this issue and opened a school in 2017, which currently educates 430 children. This next build will increase capacity to serve 560 children.

A spring water catchment was constructed, and villagers were able to walk down a slope and carry water back to the village. Over 600 people lost their lives and 16,000 sustained injuries. In the aftermath, thousands of displaced survivors were moved to temporary shelters.

- [Clean Drinking Water for Burkina Faso](https://whitefeatherfoundation.com/projects/clean-drinking-water-for-burkina-faso/): The <a href="https://www.ifrc.org/en/what-we-do/where-we-work/europe/red-cross-of-monaco/"Red Cross of Monaco, in collaboration with the Burkinabe Red Cross initiated a three-year project (2014 – 2017) in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene.
- [Washroom facilities for girls school in Uganda](https://whitefeatherfoundation.com/projects/washroom-facilities-for-girls-school-in-uganda/): New Washroom Facilities for Uganda School Challenge The St, John Paul Mugwanya Complex Day and Boarding Primary School in Masaka, Uganda was founded by a group of five volunteers and teachers who felt pity for disadvantaged and orphaned children from the slums of Ssaza Masaka district, whose parents died of HIV/AIDS. It has an average population of 564 pupils, (322 girls and 242 boys); half of which are orphans. The school relies on water from swamps and unprotected springs, and diseases such as typhoid, dysentery, cholera are common occurrences especially during the rainy season. The school also lacks proper sanitary facilities (toilets/latrines and washrooms). The school is registered as an NGO (reg. no. S.5914/5891) and its mission is to improve education and moral values so that each child becomes a responsible and productive citizen. Solution To contract competent construction firms, purchase materials, excavate the construction site, monitor the construction process, build and open new sanitary facilities. Budget Implementation The construction of washroom facilities for 322 girls, to promote better hygiene and overall health.  Result Reduction of illness in children, teachers and support staff at the school. Plus, improved standards of academic performance as a ripple effect of the healthier lifestyle. Help support more projects like this

- [CLEAN WATER FOR NKOPE HILL MISSION](https://whitefeatherfoundation.com/projects/clean-water-nkope-hill-mission/): Nkope Hill Mission was founded in 1906 and now includes a 45-bed health centre with a shelter for patients’ relatives who come to prepare meals. There’s a primary school (1286 pupils) with two dormitories built by MACS for 40 blind and low vision children. There’s a secondary school (167 pupils) and 22 houses for teachers, clinical and nursing staff.
- [Amazon Conservation Team](https://whitefeatherfoundation.com/projects/amazon-conservation-team/): 2010—With the help of funding from The White Feather Foundation, the Amazon Conservation Team purchased an outboard motor for the canoes of the un-acculturated Waurá people of Brazil’s Xingu Indigenous Reserve so that they could clean their river of debris carried from upriver and transport this refuse to neighbouring towns with proper disposal sites. For the Waurá, a clean river means an increased likelihood of healthy fish stocks and by extension, healthy children.
- [Monaco Red Cross: Burkina Faso](https://whitefeatherfoundation.com/projects/monaco-red-cross-burkina-faso/): Clean Water for Burkina Faso Community Challenge In the Koutougou and Arbinda townships of the Soum Province of Burkina Faso, West Africa, citizens don’t have easy access to clean drinking water or sanitary waste latrines. Furthermore, they don’t have the knowledge needed to avoid waterborne diseases and other illnesses, which result from poor sanitation. Solution To provide access to clean water, teach locals how to avoid contamination and establish good personal hygiene habits, plus ensure long-term maintenance of waste management through the strengthening of water management committees. Implementation In partnership with the Red Cross of Monaco, 50 latrines were constructed and boreholes were rehabilitated from Nov. 2013 – Sept. 2014. In addition, the population was trained in personal hygiene, water management and sanitation. Result This program helped approximately 300 people who represented 50 of the most vulnerable families who were already participating in a Red Cross food security project. - [Charity Water Rwanda](https://whitefeatherfoundation.com/projects/charity-water-rwanda/): Only 57 percent of the population in Rwanda has nearby access to clean drinking water. Oftentimes, children are sent to collect the water, which disrupts their education. Alternately, drinking unsanitary water can cause illness due to waterborne diseases. - [Charity Water Ethiopia](https://whitefeatherfoundation.com/projects/charity-water-ethiopia/): In recent decades, Ethiopia has faced famine, drought, political instability and war. Although peace has returned, the nation remains developmentally weak, and over 50 million Ethiopians don’t have access to safe water. Most rural families survive on fewer than five liters of water per day and walk up to four hours to collect it from open sources.
- [Interactions & Solidarity Monaco & Kenya](https://whitefeatherfoundation.com/projects/interactions-solidarity-monaco-kenya/): Clean Water for Ol Doinyo Oibor Primary School in Kenya Challenge The children attending Ol Doinyo Oibor Primary School in Kenya, and their families within the community, did not have access to clean water or a sustainable plan for ongoing water management and personal hygiene. Solution In partnership with Interactions & Solidarity Monaco, we constructed >a borehole at 130m deep, in the Noomaiyanat area, Loitokitok district (which took place from April to July 2013). Budget Implementation The Noomaiyanat community actively participates to ensure sustainability of this project with the support of the school management committee and with the government of Kenya through the Ministry of Education. Result 3,000 people—100% of the population—now have access to safe drinking water. 2,000 are regular users (900 of which are children) consuming 20 litres per day, and 1,000 people living further than 1km away are less frequent users, consuming just 10 litres per day. In addition, waterborne diseases have been drastically reduced by approximately 40% and 95% of the parents at the school participate in hygiene improvement sessions. An exercise in compassion, building a safe school for others less fortunate will serve as a reminder how fortunate they are to have a safe place to learn.

It teaches the importance of teamwork through a collaborative exercise. The children will need to communicate within their own team to figure out the hiding places from the clues, and they’ll need to communicate with the opposing team to deliver the final items together and win.
