This is the second in a new series where we offer ways for donors to help fundraise for TWFF.
Help us Find New Grant Sources
One of the reasons our foundation is able to keep operating is because of generous grants from businesses and other charities. We regularly pitch to these types of places, but we would love your assistance in finding more!
What are we looking for?
You may be surprised at the variety of places that offer grants or one-time donations to like-minded charities. Here are just a few examples:
- Restaurants
- Hair Salons
- Independent Theatres
- Beauty Spas
- Bookstores
- Clothing Retailers
- Charitable Foundations
- Online Retailers
- Jewelers
- Office Supply Stores
- Furniture Galleries
- Grocers
- Craft Stores
- Small Businesses
- Outdoor/Recreational Retailers
What we are not looking for ...
Many places will offer “in-kind” donations such as gift cards or tangible items from their business. We cannot accept in-kind donations.
We also will not accept funding from businesses that do not align with our core values, or are seen as “greenwashers”, i.e.: we would not take a donation from a gas/oil company due to their fossil fuel pollution.
How to Search
Think of all the places you patronize, all of the services you use, and visit the websites of those respective places.
Search for a section of the site that mentions “Corporate Responsibility”, “Fundraising”, “Social Giving,” etc. There are usually links in the footer.
Once you find this area, read through the section to learn whether or not they provide funding for our types of projects. Look for the main keywords: “Indigenous”, “Environment,” “Education”, “Health”, “Clean Water” or broader terms like “Disaster Relief” or “Climate Change”. Don’t worry about the funding amount (some places are only able to give a few hundred dollars per year, and that’s okay!); the important thing is that they fund projects in our designated areas of giving.
You also need to confirm the grants are available to American 501(c)3 organisations and that they are “Unrestricted.”
If you find a source that meets all of this criteria, copy the link to the page where you found the information and send it to: [email protected] and we will take it from there!
Please Do Not Submit an Application or Pitch on Our Behalf
While we appreciate that you may want to take it a step further, we ask that you don’t.
To ensure the legal accuracy of the communications and also to prevent a duplication of efforts, members of The White Feather Foundation team are the only individuals authorized to speak on our behalf. We appreciate your respect of this process.
Get a Shoutout
If you send us a lead that becomes a donor organisation, to express our gratitude, we will acknowledge you in our annual report & on our social media channels.
Thanks to all who are motivated to spend time surfing the web to find new funding sources for our charity; if conducting research isn’t your jam, stay tuned for more ideas in the coming weeks!
