In 2025, two recipients from the Lead for Ghana program were chosen to receive Cynthia Lennon Scholarships for Girls: Hagar O. and Mavis A., who are junior high school students in the community. They are pictured above with their new storage boxes, which will transport their necessary clothes, books and food for boarding school.
They received some of these items at a special ceremony last week.
Support from the Scholarship Funds
After a careful needs assessment process conducted by the administration, it was determined that the scholarships would be allocated toward the following:
- Mock examination fees
- Final Examination Registration Fees
- Textbooks
- Toiletries/menstrual cups
- Uniform necessities such as undergarments, sneakers and sandals.
- Bedsheets, pillows and blankets
- Backpack for transporting school supplies
- Storage boxes to transport items for boarding school
Examinations
The tests that the students take are a vital part of their educational journey. First, preparing with mock exams, then in May taking the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), which is the final examination students at the Junior High School level take to transition into senior high school. Their performance in this exam determines whether they gain admission into their preferred senior high schools, are placed into any senior high school within the national system or are placed at all.
We are grateful that a portion of the funds removes the financial barrier for the girls to be able to complete these necessary milestones.
We look forward to providing another update this fall and wish the girls the greatest success in the meantime.
