Fentanyl is a drug that’s 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine. Just 2 mg is considered a lethal dose.
Now, cartels are using what’s called ‘rainbow fentanyl’—brightly coloured pills intentionally made to look like candy to young people—to sell this highly addictive drug.
The result? In the U.S., the leading cause of death in those aged 18 – 45 is fentanyl overdose.
In response, Writer/Director Julia Verdin (Angie: Lost Girls, Maya, No Address) is creating a film, The Killing Machine, based on true stories, to raise awareness and issue it as a call to action to mobilise against the opiod epidemic.
She is hoping to fund the film fully on donations via her nonprofit Artists For Change, where our founder, Julian Lennon, serves on the Advisory Board. This is to ensure that the film can be made available for educational purposes to NGOs, schools and communities at no charge for screenings that will reach a broader audience than a typical release, and truly make a difference in the fight against opioid addiction.
