Studio Samuel students learn basic sewing skills in class by making menstrual kits. They distribute these kits to their peers so they don’t have to drop out of school when they get their period. This is a common problem for girls in developing countries. So far we’ve helped 1,450 girls stay in school – and we’re just getting started!
“I already missed much school because of menstruation. I have strong grades, but if I miss 20 days total, my school cannot allow me to return. I’m very excited for my new kit and what it means!”
~ Melesse, 14-year-old, rural Northern Ethiopia
In addition to the recipients benefiting from their kits, Studio Samuel students gain by having this opportunity to implement lessons from their life skills curriculum. Presenting kit usage & menstrual health to hundreds of peers directly targets our students’ self-awareness, empathy and effective communication skills. Not to mention the incredible pride they feel when seeing the huge smile of thanks from a girl they’ve just helped stay in school!
Studio Samuel and The White Feather Foundation thank our supporters for understanding the immense need and direct connection of education and healthcare for a girl born into a marginalized community.
God bless you always and keep you safe and in school!
