New Dorm for Common Ground
Common Ground for Africa is a grass roots community-based organisation working to help thousands of families in the rural communities of western Kenya improve their lives through education.
Programmes include economic and community development, and educational programs for primary school children, and support for orphans and vulnerable children. Their aim is to alleviate poverty—the single largest threat to human well being and social stability in Kenya.
Common Ground strives to demonstrate , in a concrete, observable way, that modern human societies can live sustainably and comfortably with nature.
It is estimated that 600,000 Kenyan children are homeless and facing life threatening circumstances on a daily basis including sexually-transmitted diseases, starvation, and deadly drugs, to name but a few. Those who do escape these dangers, if no one is there to help, live under the bondage of abject poverty.
The White Feather Foundation is pleased to announce that we have been able to help build a dormitory for girls at the Pathfinder Academy. The dormitory will house 240 girls. The project seeks to transform the lives of impoverished children by providing life’s basic necessities: education, food, clean water, and shelter. Armed with an education, these young women will return to their communities to serve as agents of change in every sector of society.
It is exciting to know that the children will develop skills that will help them to make a living, which will not only contribute to the quality of their life but to the lives of others as well. It is critical to provide children a safe and loving environment to live. It is also critical to provide food for the nourishment of their bodies and the medical care to protect them from sickness and disease. Equally important is the education. Contributing not only to the children’s survival but to their country’s development both socially and economically. It is through the support of others that our hopes and dreams are kept alive for the children and for Kenya.
