Help Reverse the Seasonal Surge

Each year, monsoonal rains and severe floods displace millions of pounds of plastic waste from inland communities into Indonesia’s rivers and, ultimately, the ocean. This seasonal surge in pollution represents an acute environmental crisis—one that threatens marine life, fragile coastal ecosystems, and the health and livelihoods of local communities. Using the innovative “Dugong” vessel enables longer missions and access to areas smaller boats cannot efficiently reach.

To meet this challenge head-on, our partners at 4Ocean have developed a robust cleanup infrastructure in Indonesia led by local rights-holders. This proven method has so far removed 30 million pounds of debris from waterways in this country.

In just two months of operation, from February 18 to April 30, 2025, the Dugong helped remove 196,875 pounds of plastic—compared to just 27,031 pounds collected between January 2 and February 17 with smaller vessels. This five-fold increase in impact has validated the 4Ocean strategy and highlighted the urgency of expanding it.
Building on this momentum, The White Feather Foundation has pledged a grant of $10,000 to support their 2025 rainy season response, and we need your help to reach that goal.
Their target is to remove at least 300,000 pounds of plastic waste during the two-month window between the beginning of November and the end of December this year, preventing long-term environmental damage and reinforcing sustainable waste management in the region.

High-Capacity Cleanup Vessels

Your donation pays for the physical boats and other necessary equipment used to physically remove the waste from the water in Indonesia.

Emergency Crews

Your donation pays professionals—many local stewards of the area—a full-time, living wage to operate the equipment, coordinate the cleanups and report on the removal progress throughout the life of the project.

Waste Processing

Once the pollutants are removed from the water, the waste must be transported and processed. Some of the items are recycled into jewelry and other products, which 4Ocean sells to fund more cleanups.
