The White Feather Foundation Supports Charity: Water

Diseases from unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war. Since 2006, charity: water has worked to solve this water crisis by bringing clean and safe drinking water to over 2.5 million people around the globe. charity: water’s work is particularly crucial in Ethiopia, where access to water and sanitation are among the lowest in the world.

In the last few decades, Ethiopia has faced famine, drought, political instability, and war. Although peace has returned, the nation remains developmentally weak, and over 50 million Ethiopians don’t have access to safe water. Most rural families survive on fewer than five liters of water per day and walk up to four hours to collect it from open sources.

With the White Feather Foundation’s support, charity: water’s partners in Ethiopia will build hand-dug wells, which measure up to 15 meters to reach aquifers below. These wells will not only offer a clean water supply to people in need, but will also restore time, health, and opportunity to Ethiopian communities.
