Phider Musubika is 9 months pregnant and she has gone into labour. Like most women in this area, Phider intends to give birth at home with the help of female relatives, who take on the role of midwife. But it begins to dawn on Phider and her relatives that something is not right and she is in too much pain.
Phider lives in a very isolated spot with no neighbors close by. Her house is in a quiet place with lots of bushes, banana trees and a small maize field. It’s consider a lovely place to live, but when sickness or emergencies happen it is not easy to get to a health center fast.
Thankfully Waiswa Cosmas, a Village Ambulance driver in this area, was on duty that day. After receiving a call from Phider’s relatives, he rushed to her home to transport her to Kiyunga health center where Doctor Michael Walusimbi was able to help and refer Phider to Kamuli General Hospital. It turns out that she needed a cesarean section!
Thanks to the amazing Village Ambulances and Hospital staff, Phider gave birth to a healthy baby girl.
Thanks to our charity partner Egoli Africa for helping save people’s lives with Village Ambulances.
