2 Years Later: Cynthia Lennon Scholarship Recipients Pursue Nursing, Engineering Degrees

Against all odds, these remarkable five students in Myanmar and India are thriving.
Health and Hope 2026 update

Under the patronage of His Majesty King Charles III, our partners at Health & Hope UK continue their mission to “restore hope, relieve suffering, and support sustainable development with vulnerable communities in and from Myanmar”.

Two years ago, we named five of their Burmese students as recipients of The Cynthia Lennon Scholarship for Girls. Since then, increased political upheaval in the region has displaced over 3 million people and Myanmar suffered a devastating earthquake in March of 2025. Thankfully, all of our girls survived; some relocated to India to continue their studies.

All have written to us this week to let us know how things are going—and we couldn’t be more proud of their accomplishments! Read on to hear personal messages from these future nurses and engineers.

Ferozah

I am currently pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I am now in my third year and I am sincerely grateful for the continued support I have received through the Cynthia Lennon Scholarship for Girls.

Over the past few years, I have grown both academically and personally. Nursing education has given me valuable knowledge, clinical experience, and opportunities to develop my communication, practical, and professional skills. Although I have faced challenges, especially with language, time management, and adapting to a new environment, your support has encouraged me to remain focused and continue working hard toward my goals. As I progress through my third year, I have become more confident in my nursing knowledge and clinical skills. My experiences in the classroom and hospital have helped me understand the importance of compassion, responsibility, patience, and dedication in caring for patients.

I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation for your kindness and generosity. Your support has made my educational journey easier and has allowed me to concentrate more on my studies and future career. I truly value the opportunity you have given me. After completing my nursing education, I hope to use the knowledge and skills I have gained to serve others and contribute meaningfully to the nursing profession and my community. I will continue to work hard, learn from every experience, and make the most of this opportunity.

Mya

I am very thankful for the support I have received through the Cynthia Lennon Scholarship for Girls. Coming from a family with financial difficulties, continuing my education has been a big challenge for me. There were times when I was worried that I might not be able to continue my studies. Because of this scholarship, I have been able to continue my degree in Computer Engineering. I am now in my third year, and I am happy that I have been able to continue my studies and do well in my classes. I received an SGPA of 8.18 in my fourth semester. I know I still have a lot to learn, but I am trying my best to stay focused and make good use of the opportunity I have been given.

Thank you so much for supporting my education. Your help means a lot to me and my family. Because of your support, I can continue studying and work toward the future I hope for. I am truly grateful for your kindness and for giving me this opportunity. I will continue to work hard and do my best. Thank you for believing in me and supporting my journey.

I am currently pursuing Civil Engineering in India. I am now in my 3rd year, fifth semester, and I am grateful for the opportunity to keep learning and growing in my academic journey. By the grace of God, although my studies have not always been easy, I have worked hard, passed all my subjects in every semester, and maintained an SGPA above 8.0. Your support gives me motivation and confidence to face challenges and continue my education.

My dream is to become a skilled and responsible civil engineer who can contribute to the development of my country, Myanmar, and help improve the lives of people in my community. I hope to use the knowledge and skills I gain through my studies to make a meaningful contribution to society.

I am truly grateful for your kindness, trust, and belief in my future. Thank you for being part of my educational journey and helping me move closer to my dreams. I will continue to work hard, make the most of this opportunity, and strive to become someone who can give back to my community. Your support means so much to me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Aye

I am studying BSc. Nursing (5th semester) in India. I would like to express my deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to you for supporting me throughout these difficult years. Since the situation in 2021 Myanmar coup shattered my aspirations, my life and education have faced many unexpected challenges. There were times when I felt uncertain, helpless, and hopeless about my future. Continuing my education seemed very difficult, and I did not know how I would be able to move forward. During that difficult period, your support became a great source of hope for me. Your kindness and generosity have helped me continue my studies and pursue my dreams despite the circumstances.

Words cannot fully express how grateful I am for everything you have done for me. Because of your support, I have been able to keep going when I felt like giving up. You have not only supported my education financially, but you have also given me hope and the courage to believe in my future again. I sincerely promise that I will work hard, make the best use of this opportunity, and continue striving toward my goals. I hope that one day I will be able to give back to others in the same way you have helped me.

Gawa

I come from a place where violence erupted after the coup and a conflict that took my beloved brother’s life. Despite this tragedy, I remain strong-willed and compassionate, determined to serve my nation and community. The hardest period came when my father joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) in protest of the military regime, leaving our family without income.

Struggling with English fluency and overcoming shyness in communication, I am now pursuing Computer Science Engineering with the life-changing support of the Cynthia Lennon Scholarship. Amidst these struggles, God’s mercy reached me. The scholarship transformed my life, allowing me to continue my education and chase my dream. Sometimes I realize that reaching the goal would be impossible without help. I never imagined I would be where I am today without your generous love and support. Even in hardship, I will keep fighting for my dreams—your belief in me keeps me going. I promise to work harder every day.

It’s beautiful and inspiring and life-affirming how one person, Cynthia Lennon, can make such profound, positive changes in the world, through her son, Julian.

These letters touch my heart, deeply, and inspire me.

How gracious these young ladies are; and how lovely! God bless them! I love them even though I have only met them through The Cynthia Lennon Scholarship for Girls.

I promise to continue supporting these young women, and will give more and more, in time.
