Since the first observance by the United Nations (UN) in 1993, World Water Day has served as an annual celebration to raise awareness of issues surrounding clean water. This year, the day focuses on Climate Change and how water can help fight it.
In that spirit we’d like to call attention to our charity partners at Plastic Oceans. They work to reduce and eliminate plastic pollution in our oceans through education and advocacy. Current ways you can get involved can be found here, and their award-winning documentary, A Plastic Ocean, is currently streaming on multiple platforms. Stay up-to-date on all the latest news via their insights page.
World Water Day is also a reminder to recognize the work of the conservationists across the globe who study our oceans in the field to bring light to vital issues. The White Feather Foundation is proud to have renowned Conservationist Joakim Odelberg on the team as a Global Ambassador. We recently conducted an in-depth interview with him to learn more about his field expeditions and he regaled us with fascinating stories and facts. In case you missed it, you can read that interview on our blog.
Clean Water has been an area of focus for The White Feather Foundation for several years. In the past, our supporters have made potentially life-saving projects like these possible:
- With Charity Water: Ethiopia, we constructed a well in Northern Tigray, which brought clean water to 300 people.
- With Charity Water: Rwanda, we built two wells, and brought clean water to 600 people.
- With MACS, we completed the rehabilitation and extension of a critical water supply system in Central Malawi, which positively impacted approximately 1500 people.
- With Monaco Red Cross, BFRC and Zabré Dept, we provided equipment and training to give access to clean water for over 2000 citizens in Burkina Faso.
- With community leader Farmer Tantoh, we brought potable water to a population of over 15,000 in the Northwest region of Cameroon.
- With the Amazon Conservation Team, we installed an aqueduct for the Yachaikury School to ensure clean water for 140 students.
As we enter a new normal in the face of a global pandemic, clean water and the role it plays in proper sanitation is more important than ever. If you’re able, please consider a donation to The White Feather Foundation to Give Clean Water and #conservelife.
